With so much going for its talented cast, The Northman should make a decent splash at the box office for an arthouse film when it debuts on April 22. And for the last six years, the British photographer has shared what he calls breakdowns of individual pictures with over 1.2 million Instagram followers. Following her breakout role in The Witch, Taylor-Joy has also re-teamed with Eggers (along with Ralph Ineson). With two films under his belt, Eggers has been assembling a talented troupe of actors he prefers working with, and Dafoe is clearly a part of that group given his past performance in The Lighthouse. Dafoe has long been fan-casted as The Joker, and with this role as a court jester coming up, the tantalizing thought of Dafoe as Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime in a future Batman film will likely continue to lurk in audiences' minds.
In the director’s new film, The Lighthouse, a testosterone-fuelled duo, played by Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, are stranded on the coast of Maine, in 1890, with only a lighthouse and each other for company. Though his The Northman character doesn't appear to be a villain per se, it will surely be an entertaining performance considering Dafoe's penchant for playing eccentric characters.
